WILLIAM GRIFFITH
William “Billy” Griffith is a distinguished tourism executive with over four decades of leadership in the global
hospitality industry. Recognized as a transformative leader, he was named Hotelier of the Year and
earned a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to tourism development and management.
Griffith also received the Caribbean Journal Director of Tourism of the Year accolade, underscoring
his pivotal role in elevating Caribbean tourism on the international stage.
An Honors graduate in Hotel Management from the University of the West Indies, his career began at Sandy Lane Hotel, Barbados, progressing to key leadership roles at that hotel. Griffith became General Manager and later Executive Director at Bermuda’s Harmony Club and Belmont Hotel, earning “Hotelier of the Year” in 1997.
As President of the Bermuda Resort Hotels Group between 1998 and 2008, Griffith managed four hotel properties on the island and later served as President of the Bermuda Hotel Association, Chairman of the Bermuda Hotel Association, and served on several boards, including the Board of Governors of Bermuda College and the Bermuda Board of Tourism.
From 2008 to 2014, he was appointed as Bermuda’s Director of Tourism, followed by his role as CEO of Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (2014–2019), where he led the country to record-breaking tourism performance. Griffith’s contributions earned him a “Lifetime Achievement Award” (2016) from the Barbados Association in Bermuda and “Tourism Director of the Year” (2018) by Carib Journal. He currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Caribbean Tourism Organization and was elected to Chair its Allied Non-Government members in 2024. Griffith was also appointed on the Board of Directors of the Bermuda Tourism Authority in 2025.
Griffith’s expertise spans strategic planning, destination marketing, and team leadership, with a proven track record of delivering exceptional results. After a stellar career in public and private tourism sectors, he founded WCG Consulting, a dynamic advisory firm specializing in tourism strategy, which has achieved significant success in just five years. Griffith’s visionary approach and commitment to excellence have left an indelible mark on the tourism industry, making him a sought-after leader and mentor worldwide.
